The Hammocks is located on the southwest corner of Harbor Island on Banks Channel with panoramic views from Seapath Marina to the south end of Wrightsville Beach. The views of the sunset are absolutely breathtaking!
The house and garden have gone through a series of incarnations but little has changed in 15 years since NICK GARRETT rebuilt the home to its current beauty and elegance. This classic Nantucket style home has set the precedence for other similar homes on Wrightsville Beach that has given the area a boost of charm and character.
LANDSCAPES UNIQUE designed and installed the garden to be in harmony with the architecture. The arbor to the right of the front door is graced with a wisteria vine whose lavender color is a perfect compliment to pink shutters. To the left of the front door are pink Crape Myrtles which exactly match the shutters. Below the Crape Myrtles are a few Euryops, yellow daisy-like flowers, which cascade between the white pickets of the fence next to the house.
Both property lines are defined with a hedge of Ligustrum, which is very hardy at the beach especially during a storm surge. Underneath the house are a series of raised wood planters with wide caps designed by Tracy McCullen which transforms the carport into a Loggia allowing for overflow sitting during large parties.
On the water side of the garden is a meandering lawn path wandering between lush beach plantings such as Oleander, Majestic Beauty Hawthorne, Yaupon Holly, Dwarf Pittosporum and several ornamental grasses. Confederate Jasmine and Climbing Roses frame the arched lattice doorways leading from Loggia to the rear garden. The natural gray wood of the pier is brightened with colorful Adirondack chairs and several pots with a variety of color and texture.
The garden is quite wonderful but the best part of the garden is without a doubt the view beyond the garden of the spectacular sunsets across the water.
